Decks & outdoor living · Ontario

Outdoor builds that survive an Ontario winter.

Decks, pool surrounds, pavilions, fencing and stone. Built on properly dug and poured footings, because everything above ground depends on what's below it.

Most failed decks in this province failed at the footing.

Frost heave is the thing that wrecks outdoor work in Ontario. A deck set on shallow piers or patio stones will move every spring until the railings rack and the boards cup, no matter how good the cedar was.

So we dig below the frost line, pour properly, and build up from there. It's the least visible part of the quote and the reason the structure is still square in ten years.

What's included

What an outdoor build with us covers.

Footings & structure

Holes dug below the frost line, poured and inspected, with framing sized for the span rather than for the quote.

Pool decks

Decking and railing built around existing above-ground and inground pools, to the code requirements for pool enclosures.

Pavilions & pergolas

Timber-frame covered structures, outdoor kitchens and bar builds with services run to them.

Fencing

Board-on-board, privacy and horizontal fencing, set on posts that go in properly.

Lighting & stone

Lighting set into posts and risers, plus paver patios, walkways, retaining walls and the grading and drainage underneath.

Questions we get

What people ask about outdoor builds.

Do I need a permit for a deck?

In most municipalities, once it's above a certain height or attached to the house, yes. Pool enclosures have their own requirements. We'll confirm for your address and handle the application.

Cedar or composite?

Cedar looks better and costs less up front; composite costs more and asks almost nothing of you afterwards. We'll quote both if you're undecided.

When should I book?

Earlier than you think. Outdoor work concentrates into a short season here, so the people who call in late winter get the dates they want.

Can you build around an existing pool?

Yes — a lot of our outdoor work is decking and railing built around a pool that's already in the ground or sitting above it.
