Fencing · Ontario

Fences that are still straight in ten years.

Board-on-board, privacy and horizontal cedar fencing, set on posts dug below the frost line. The part you cannot see is the part that decides how long it lasts.

Nearly every leaning fence in this province has the same cause.

Posts set too shallow. Ontario frost goes deeper than most fence quotes allow for, and a post that stops above the frost line gets lifted a little every spring until the whole run racks and the gates stop closing.

We dig below it, set and backfill the posts properly, and build up from there. It costs a bit more on day one and it is the entire difference ten winters later.

Questions we get

What people ask about fencing.

How tall can my fence be?

That is set by your municipality and it differs between front, side and rear yards. We confirm the limit for your address before quoting.

Who pays when it is a shared line?

A fence on the property line between two homes is usually shared, and in Ontario the Line Fences Act covers disputes. In practice it is worth a conversation with your neighbour first, and we are happy to quote it either way.

Cedar or pressure-treated?

Cedar looks better, weathers well and costs more. Pressure-treated costs less and does the job. We will quote both.

When can you build?

Any time the ground is workable. Spring books up fastest, so calling in late winter usually gets you the dates you want.

Need a fence that holds its line?

Tell us the run, the height you want and whether it is a shared line. We will confirm what is allowed and quote it.
